Garage Door Questions Eagan Homeowners Ask Us Before They Call

Answers for Eagan homeowners before they call: what we fix, what we don't, our service area out to Mendota Heights and Inver Grove Heights, and how a job actually runs.

Do you come out to Mendota Heights or Inver Grove Heights, not just Eagan?

Yes. Our service area covers Eagan and the nearby communities, including Mendota Heights and Inver Grove Heights about 5 miles out, West St. Paul and Richfield around 7 miles, and farther towns like Hastings and Golden Valley. If you're unsure whether your address qualifies, call and ask - we'll tell you plainly rather than guess.

Why did my spring break on such a cold morning?

Cold is hard on torsion springs. Steel contracts in low temperatures, and a spring that's already fatigued from years of cycling is more likely to snap on a frigid morning than a mild one. This is common in our cold-climate area, especially on older doors that haven't had hardware replaced since installation.

My house was built in the 1970s - is that why parts are hard to find?

It can be. A lot of homes in this area went up between 1956 and 2004, with plenty dating to the 1960s and 70s. Original doors from that era sometimes used hardware or sizing that isn't stocked the way current parts are, so a repair can take a bit more sourcing than on a newer door.

Do you handle commercial garage doors?

No. We work on residential garage doors, openers, and related hardware. Commercial overhead doors and loading-dock equipment use different hardware and a different repair approach, so we don't take those jobs.

Is it better to repair or just replace an old door?

Depends on the door. If it's original hardware failing in more than one spot, repairing one part often just means the next part fails soon after. On a door like that we'll usually tell you replacement is the better money, even if a repair call would be the easier job for us to book.

Contacting Us

Call 1-651-401-2195. That line goes to the office, not a dispatch center that forwards you somewhere else. If you're standing in your driveway staring at a door that won't move, tell us what you see and hear - a loud bang before it stopped, a cable hanging loose, an opener that runs but the door doesn't lift. That detail helps us figure out if it's a spring, a cable, or something electrical before anyone drives out.

Our address is 2600 Eagan Woods Dr, Eagan, MN 55121. We don't run a walk-in showroom out of that address for browsing openers or panels, so call first rather than stopping by unannounced.

We work in Eagan and the surrounding area, including Mendota Heights, Inver Grove Heights, West St. Paul, South St. Paul, and out toward Hastings and Golden Valley. If you're not sure whether your address is in range, just ask when you call - it's a quick answer and saves everyone a wasted trip.

One honest note: we're a phone call away, not a live chat or text-first operation. If you need a fast answer, calling beats emailing or filling out a form and waiting.

What Happens After You Call

  1. When you call, expect a few direct questions

What the door is doing (or not doing), whether it's a spring, opener, or track issue as far as you can tell, and the age of the door if you know it. A lot of the housing stock around Eagan dates to 1956 through 2004, with a median around 1973, so a good chunk of calls involve original hardware that's simply worn out rather than broken by accident.

  2. We'll talk through whether this sounds like something that needs a same-visit fix

A broken torsion spring, a snapped cable, a roller off the track - or something that needs a look first, like an opener that's intermittently failing. Minnesota's cold winters are hard on garage door hardware: steel contracts, lubricant stiffens, and springs that were already fatigued tend to let go on the coldest mornings.

  3. If your call comes in during a cold stretch, that context shapes what we expect to find

From there we schedule a time, confirm your address is in our service area, and give you a realistic sense of what the visit will involve before a truck ever leaves.

What We Do Not Take On

We work on residential garage doors, openers, springs, cables, tracks, rollers, and panels. We don't do commercial overhead doors, rolling steel fire doors, or loading-dock equipment - that's different hardware and a different skill set, and we'd rather tell you that up front than take a job we're not set up for.

We also don't do general handyman work. If the problem is the door itself, the opener, or the track system, that's our job. If it's the framing around the opening, siding, or a structural issue with the garage itself, that's outside what we handle, and we'll say so rather than guess at it.

On older doors - and with housing here mostly dating to the 1960s and 70s - sometimes the honest answer is that repair isn't worth it. If a door's hardware is original and failing in multiple places at once, patching one part often just shifts the failure to the next part a few months later. In that situation we'll tell you replacement makes more financial sense, even though a repair call is simpler for us to book.
